These are questions that I inevitably get asked. If you have any further ones or if there are questions that you would like to see listed here, please do not hesitate to ask!

How much does it cost?

Private treatment:
First appointment (consultation and treatment) £50,
Follow up appointments - £37

For multibed reduced cost treatment, see Manchester Accessible Acupuncture website for info

Does it hurt?

Having needles inserted into acupuncture points does not cause pain comparable  to that experienced when injection needles are inserted. Acupuncture needles are a fraction of the size. Patients experience a sensation that ranges from a slight tingling to a numbness or achiness.  There is rarely any blood because the needles are so fine. Sometimes a sensation of electrical pulsation is felt away from where the needle is. Any kind of sensation is short-lasting.

How long will it take to get better?

Each case is individual and so I do not want to mislead anyone by giving ideas that  may be unrealistic. As a rough idea, it is said that if someone has had a problem for a number of years, then it will take that number of months for them to get better. For example, if a patient has had problems with their knees for four years, then they should expect that treatment will be required for four months. During this time, it is likely that they will experience increasing amounts of relief. There are always exceptions to this rule: for example, one patient who had had painful periods all of her life. She came for treatment in her late thirties and after three treatments, each one week apart; she had her first painless period.

Where is the practice?

2 clinics are in Manchester city centre and one is a few miles south in Sale. Directions are available on the Clinics page

How many needles are used in a treatment?

Anything from two to around 10 needles can be used, depending on the treatment's focus.

Can I donate blood if I am having acupuncture treatment?

Yes. All members of the British Acupuncture Council follow strict guidelines following clean needle technique with disposable needles. If you would like to donate blood and are having treatment from me, I am able to give you a certificate which the Blood Transfusion Service will accept.

Talks I Do

An example of my talks is as follows: Understanding your Body with the Seasons, with a special focus on autumn and how we can maximize the potential of energy that is around at this time. The talk is given when the moon is waxing so that plans can be discussed for people to make the most of the moon's drawing power in order to cleanse and prepare the body for the energetically quieter and more still winter months.

Chinese Medicine is based upon the theory of Five Elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. Each element is associated with not only internal organs and people’s health but also the world around us. Each element is related to a season:

  • Water – the still reflective season of Winter
  • Wood – the powerful uprising progressive season of Spring
  • Fire – the warm ripened season of Summer
  • Earth – the harvesting time for all that has matured in ‘Late Summer’
  • Metal – the time when energy recedes back to the earth, the Autumn time, which prepares the earth for the still and darker time of Winter

This change of energy out side of us has a massive impact on our general internal wellbeing. This talk will introduce you to what this is all about and what you can do to help yourselves with respect to this.

Realization of the elements with respect to the seasons can:

  • Help you understand and support your self in different ways to make the passage through the seasons more efficiently.
  • Encourage a healthy body and mind that can help cope with life’s trials and tribulations.
  • Make dietary habits more suited to what you need when you need it.
